NFL.com - Marrone: Lack of Fournette carries is 'on me' as HC
|
2019 Jaguars were never intended to be a "power running" team. If you look at the roster makeup from the very start, it is built to pass the ball and rush the passer. They were built to play with a lead. They were always going to be a pass heavy team under Nick Foles. Look at the KC game with Foles: 3 runs (28%), 8 pass (72%). Yea, slightly different circumstance, but really they're just picking up where they left off.
In this case, the coaching staff probably knew they couldn't stop the Colts running game. They tried to get ahead, thought they had good matchups in the passing game, but it didn't work out for whatever reason. I think it was more a surprise to them that the passing game didn't pan out than how many carries Fournette got. |
