Quote:JC could his success be partially due to teams commiting a lineman or 2 plus a back to stopping clowney. THus leaving him 1 on 1 or against a lesser talent.I many instances, it's the other way around. South Carolina frequently used Quarles to influence the offensive tackle his way in order to free up Clowney. Clowney did NOT draw double-teams for the majority of the season. Quarles was double-teamed slightly less than 50%(estimated). In many of Clowney's TFLs they were poor renditions of the new-fangled jet option type runs where Clowney was actually left uncovered. To give you some idea of what I see in Kelcy Quarles watch the first play here. What I hope you see is Clowney shove Kelcy to the dirt. Quarles get up and almost beat Clowney to the passer. The draft breakdown site has loads of Clowney video. I watched all of them in order to scout Kelcy Quarles. I sort of got the sense that Quarles is getting buried to make Clowney look bigger than he really is. The fact that Kelcy is second-team All-America and Clowney is not. NFL.com is just reporting the Sapp comparison..... It's not the first time Quarles has been compared to the former Miami Hurricanes star. Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier did the same last fall when asked about the skill set that helped Quarles deliver 9.5 sacks from an interior defensive line position."I've told people he reminds me a little bit of Warren Sapp, because he's got a little bit of a belly, but he can move," Spurrier said. It's kind of nice to think somebody has my back even if they are oblivious to the fact.
