I'd say I'm back at 8O% sure Doug is staying
Any reports/verified tweets on that?
This. I would like to see a legitimate source. A team coming off it's 7th double digit loss in 8 years shouldn't be in any position to be too picky.
Now. If JackCity is implying that some of the candidates probably wouldn't want this job to begin with.
It's hard to argue that. There's better job openings. I would take Dallas, Washington or New York over Jacksonville. Strictly on legacy and historical reasons. It's a job and location with more prestige.
Carolina and Cleveland I would probably avoid though just because of the QB situations there alone and ownership. I think you have a lot to address between the Newton / Allen situation and Mayfield situation on those teams.
Jacksonville at least has some promise in Minshew. Foles can be given a pass with that injury. He was rushed back out there. It cost the team dearly midseason. That's not on Foles. That's on the front office and coaching staff.
I hate to say it. But after mulling over it this morning. It sadly makes sense to ride it out with Marrone from Khan's perspective. I may not agree with it. I would prefer to see a significant effort made at interviewing DC's and OC's from a number of these play off teams this year.
But it makes sense now. Coughlin will be the scapegoat. Marrone and Caldwell need to send him a gift basket for buying them another year. They either sink or swim in 2020. And that schedule on paper already looks brutal enough.
Hopefully they make the best of 2020's draft selections. The only way I see them making it after 2020 is with a serious play off berth or run.
I expect tomorrow's announcement to fall along the lines of Marrone staying with coaching staff changes on defense and Caldwell resuming more of a final say on personnel decisions with Khan Jr. overseeing some of that with more of Marrone's input and insight.
Coughlin is the scapegoat though. Apparently he was so terrible and such a tyrant that it directly impacted Marrone's ability to coach so that's why Foles started midseason, the penalties were high due to lack of focus in fear of peeping Tom saying something after practice, etc.
Can't wait.
