Manziel the consensus #1 QB according to Mel Kiper

#27

Quote:How can anyone say johnny manziel is a unanimous #1 and downgrade Bridgwater for physical traits????

Manziel is like 5-10 and doesn't have The arm strength or pocket presence of Bridgwater. And please don't talk about his escapability and call it pocket presence, half the time he creates the pressure he manages to elude.

I can't see how anyone would concede that manziel is a unanimous #1 he is too risky. in the discussion ok ill give you that off of upside. but unanimous best QB? that's like saying he is a sure thing because there will be three taken in the first round! And probably in the top 10.

I gotta think someone is pulling kipers chain here.

Oh and I would much rather feed a kid a dozen or so pb and j's to put on some pounds, than try to teach a numbnut how to play QB. Just sayin....

I agree on Manziel.  I think he has superstar potential, but he needs TONS of work.  I rewatched some cutups of him yesterday after seeing his game against Duke and really, really wanting him at 3.  And TBQH, he isn't as good as he's made out to be.  He has the potenial to be, but he isn't there yet the way Teddy is there.

Everyone talks about how Bridge has reached his ceiling...and that's what everyone said about Manning.  Bridgewater has elite pocket presence and an elite mind for the game...and like Manziel, he seems to be at his best on the biggest stages, which is something Manning lacked.  I am in no way saying his career path is Manning, or even that he's that similar; it's just food for thought.

I really respect Kodiak's analysis (I certainly couldn't and wouldn't put in that much work), but he's begun to underrate Bridgewater and overrate Manziel in my mind.  I don't buy the line that Bridgewater does nothing "elite."  My QB wishlist is Bridgewater, Bortles, and Manziel, in that order, with Clowney between Teddy and Bortles.  I'd be happy with any of the 4 at 3.
