This has been debunked 100 times.  They did try to re-sign Allen Robinson but he was determined to play elsewhere. Knowing his desire to play elsewhere (i.e. - not with Bortles) they did not use the tag on a guy rehabbing an ACL.

I believe it had little to do with Bortles and more so Allen Robinson seeing how Coughlin was destroying/running this team. Players have come out and said EVERYBODY got fined in 2017. Robinson seen all of that and probably didn't want to get fined for ridiculous crap as well. Who can blame him?

As well as the fact that I'm sure they gave him a low ball, take it or leave it offer, just like they did with Ngakoue and it probably rubbed him the wrong way as well. I mean it was basically the same situation with both of them. Got offered a new deal early on in the off season (even though no actual numbers ever came out) and then they had no contact for months after that. There was no working together to get a deal done, it was simply here's the low ball deal, take it or leave it.

Trubisky was also terrible his rookie year, so the narrative that Robinson wanted to get away from Bortles/bad QB play doesn't make sense imo. If he wanted to get away from bad QB play, why would he go somewhere that had a QB that people were already calling a bust after his rookie season.
