NFL.com - Jags GM HOPES signing Ngakoue will be 'relatively' easy

Dee Ford got 5 years, $85m with $33.5m guaranteed and an average of $17.1m per season.

Trey Flowers got 5 years, $90m with $56m guaranteed and an average of $18m per season.

Ngakoue is without a doubt a better player than both of them.

Frank Clark got 5 years, $104m with $62.3m guaranteed and an average of $20.8m per season.

DeMarcus Lawrence got 5 years, $105m with $65m guaranteed and an average of $21m per season.

Ngakoue should be paid right along the lines of Clark and Lawrence.

You make him happy and you have your two young stud pass rushers locked up for the next 4-5 years.

Ngakoue is also 2-4 years younger than all of those guys as well. He's just entering his physical prime and is only going to continue to get better.

If you were the GM, how high would you go?  $21M a year?  $22M?  $25M?

$21m-22m per. Some where around there likely.

Lets be real here, this Franchise doesn't have the luxury of being stingy.. The salary cap increases at least $10m every season so an extra $1-2m per isn't really going to do jack to the cap.

There's no way you can let a few million run off arguably the best player on the team. We've already lost Robinson and Ramsey. This team cannot lose another home grown, blue chip player.

Tagging him is just going to piss him off more. As well as possibly delaying his big contract for another year, which will just continue to drive up his price as the market continues to increase year after year. Don't let it even get to that point. Get the deal done before it gets to that point/gets any worse.

As far as trading him and getting draft picks.. A good portion, if not most of you, don't even want Caldwell here and don't trust him making the selections anyways.. So you really want to give him more picks he could possibly screw up? Lol..

Draft picks are always a question mark regardless. They're rarely a sure thing. Ngakoue is proven. He's a sure thing. Give me the proven all day over some possible draft pick. Especially when he's still only 24 years old and plays one of the most important positions in football.
