DogCatcher's frugal master plan

#14

Offense:

Keep Foles. He's not worth squat this year on the trade market based on his cap figure, and especially with Brady, Rivers, Winston, etc. available. Minshew might go down for a stretch, so Foles will be a capable, potentially streaky backup. The combined cap figure for both QBs is equivalent to one top-10 starter. Having two mid-tier starters for that price is not a bad deal.

Cut Lee, Swaim. Don't exercise Fournette's option.

Sign another interior lineman - either a Center to move Linder back to guard -- or to compete at RG with Cann/Richardson (or Cam if a LT is drafted)

Sign a veteran tight end, like Ebron (boom/bust) or trade a 5th for the Browns TE. Probably can't afford Hooper.

Draft a LT in the first and take a flyer on a WR prospect in the 3rd-5th

Defense:

Cut Dareus and Bouye.

Draft Brown or Kinslow with the first pick. Sign a veteran run-stuffer, even if he offers little pass-rush value. Play "game theory" defense -- have the ammo to stop the run if a team starts gashing in the run game but don't overdo it. You just need a couple big bodies for games against the Titans, 49ers, and Ravens.

If Yan wants north of $22 million/year, franchise and trade him, then draft his potential replacement and supplement with a pass-rush specialist FA (a third-down guy, like the aging Orakpo on a one-year deal).

Extend Campbell to bring down his cap figure. If he won't budge, cut him and make a strong bid for the 49ers' Armstead (a younger poor man's version of Campbell with a smaller cap figure)

Sign a veteran middle linebacker, even if he's just a thumper.

Draft a corner to replace Bouye in the 2nd round. Sign a veteran for depth (like Amakamura or Chris Harris if his market deflates on him)

Draft a safety in the mid rounds to compete with Wilson.

---

Someone get this championship recipe to Dave Caldwell asap.

My only heartburn is over Bouye getting cut, but as long as that is the bottom of the priorities listed, I will vote for you to be our next GM if they allow me a vote this time.
