I was thinking about the draft choices we have the nest two years.
This year we have TEN (10) draft picks, inckuding two first rounders, two fourth rounders, and two 6th rounders.
Next year, we currently have NINE (9) first round picks, including two first round picks and two fourth round picks.
Hypothetical #1.
There is speculation that the team will slap the francgse tag onto Yannick Ngakoue, who has stated he does not want to play here any longer.
This draft is sparse in quality DEs, and based upon early speculation, there would be at least four teams (4) possibly interested in acquiring Ngakoue including Buffahole, Filthadelphia, Miami and the Giants. Baltimore has also been mentioned as a possibly interested team.
Assume the Jaguars realize Yan will never play another down for the team and can get at least a first round pick for him this year, givng the team three (3) first round picks in April's draft..
Given the holes on this team and the draft capital we'd have would you support a trade up with Washington that would require surrendering two of the first round picks (9 and 20)if it meant ending up with Chase Young playing opposite Josh Allen? Would your answer change if the player under consideration were Okudah or a QB? Why or why not?
Would you prefer to throw Ngakoue into the deal in place of pick #20, but with a lower pick instead (i.e. #9, Yan, and say a 3rd)? Why or why not?
Hypothetical #2
Assume the top 8 goes something like this
1. Cincinnati-Burrow
2. Washington -Chase Young
3. Detroit-Derrick Brown
4. N.Y. Giants-T. Wirfs
5. Miami-Tua Tagoavila
6. Chargers-Herbert
7. Carolina-Okudah
8. Arizona-Wills T Alabama
Caldwell, realizing he is in full rebuild mode, has seen the light when it comes to trading down. He feels at 9, he is more likely to be out of the running for an elite talent. However, a good consolation prize would be a stud LT to upgrade Cam Robinson. However, there is an early run on the top tier of LTs ahead of us, leaving only Thomas and Becton remaining on the board. You prefer Thomas as your guy. Immediately behind the Jaguars in the draft order are Cleveland and the Jets, both of whom need LTs . The Jets offer a 4th round pick to move up to 9, jumping ahead of Cleveland to take their LT. Would you take the deal? Would your answer change if Cordy Glenn, who has played quality LT, were available to sign as a free agent? Would you be fine at missing out on both Becton and Thomas if it meant getting an elite guy like Simmons at a non premium position? If LT were your goal and you missed out on both, what position would you take at 11? Would you risk moving back to Tampa's pick to prevent Indy from getting the young QB in Herbert or Young if it meant possibly missing out on Derrick Brown, Isaiah Simmons, the tackles and Kinlaw? Under those circumstances if you missed out on all of those guys, who would you target at 14?
Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
