Tackling is WAY more important than the 6th most important thing of being a CB. The receivers are gonna catch about 50% of the passes thrown to them. The CB has to be able to bring them down or there is gonna be multiple big plays against us, each game.

I think you're overrating how much a single player has on run defense, especially a CB. As a team we were 30th in the league with .12 missed tackles per snap (PFF charting). The league leader was almost .09. Changing one cornerback from being an excellent to awful tackler would have an almost negligible effect. Even if it was a stud NT it would only have a small effect by itself. The problems ran far deeper than just personnel.

Also, I agree Henderson had an awful 2019 season as far as tackling is concerned, but he wasn't bad at it in 2018. I think it was just an effort thing because he knew he was a first rounder and didn't want to risk getting hurt. Not that that's a great excuse, but I think there's something to it. I think it's also why he gave up more deep passes, he was in pretty good position most of the time he just got outphysical'd at the catch point. UF did use him to blitz a fair amount last year and he laid the wood on the QB a few times, so I think it's in there to be a passable tackler he was just preserving himself.
