Last year was the first time in his six year career that he was finally able to finish a full 16 game season. Going to throw another alarming statistic out there for those who thought passing up on top tier offensive lineman in this year's draft was a great idea?
Taylor - 15 penalties last year for 120 yards. 2nd most penalized in the NFL.
Linder - 10 penalties last year for 89 yards. 10th most penalized in the NFL.
Robinson - 10 penalties last year for 67 yards. Also tied for 10th most penalties in the NFL.
We were the ONLY team to have three offensive lineman inside the top 10 in penalties last year. They combined for roughly 29% of the entire team's penalties last year. These guys (with the exception of Taylor) can seldom stay healthy, cost us on critical 3rd downs or would be touchdowns, yet, we're supposed to believe Marrone when he says "we good" going into 2020 along the offensive trench.
This isn't counting the pressures, blow up's in the backfield that led to no push in the ground game, the missed blocks that led to Foles early departure from the team and the hits that Minshew absorbed that ended up putting him in a knee brace and banging up his groin at one point.
We'll see how it shakes out this year. But they're really pushing it by not adding enough quality depth to compensate for these guys.
I like Marrone. He's a coach. He's a guy. Vastly better than Bradley. But when I heard him say the other night that Warhop is one of the best O-line coaches in the league I almost choked. You've got to be kidding! Warhop has done very little winning in this league other than his stop in Dallas. And Marrone is an O-line coach. How is it that we have had a putrid OL ever since Doug has been here?
That right there in bold! That last part. That's unforgivable. He made his bread and butter for YEARS doing that for a living and it's been one of THE weakest and most inconsistent aspects of this football team since he's been here.
It's just a strange, strange thing. Kind of like how Brian Billick earned his coaching job in Baltimore after having tremendous success on offense with the Vikings in the mid - late 90's only to see his team win off the backs of one of the greatest defenses of all time in SPITE of atrocious QB play between Banks and Dilfer that year.
