No evidence of any exception made. 

They did destroy what would have been important evidence in a current investigation unfortunately. 
Of course it's possible they merely did this in a routine fashion, but I'm speculating they didn't want to be tied to this wrongful death. In retrospect of my comments, I guess they are inextricably linked anyway.
