Yeah, I think you're overthinking it. Trump says a lot of stupid stuff. I think he is far more reactive than calculating. That said, this is not a small thing. It's sign of what happens when you allow rhetoric to go unchecked. If roles were reversed, and a democrat was in the whitehouse right now, I think you could see something similar in the south. Tensions are boiling across the US. I just don't see how long it can be sustained.
