If Armstead is in fact better - why didn't they see it last year when Fournette carried the ball 250+ times and caught another 70+ while Armstead got mop-up duty? Do they truly expect us to believe that in a Covid training camp that they were able to determine that Fournette was all of a sudden worse than last year and worse than Armstead? If that's the case than the OP's point is valid - Kahn and Caldwell are just bad and Marrone is right there with them.
I mean Ngakoue turned down 3 years at $19M per year (reported) and I know it was supposedly all Coughlin's fault - but Coughlin is gone and Ngakoue still forced a trade where he reworked his contract to play for $12M elsewhere instead of signing and playing here for $17.8M? What's that say about our Owner, Front Office and Coach?
Again, the timing is odd and is most likely attributable to a locker room cause. Just pure speculation on my part, but it's possible Fournette was part of a clique that soured on Coughlin and carried their hate over to the FO. Perhaps the FO thought with Ngakoue gone things would simmer down and Fournette sounded off with some mutinous tones during the Saturday scrimmage.
We don't know and frankly it doesn't matter at this point. He's gone. It's time to look forward to what I believe will be a better season than most expect.
Fournette also openly campaigned for the team to sign Cam Newton.
It's just not a good look.
There were reports since the draft that the team was trying to move Fournette. While the straight release was a little surprising, it didn't floor me.
I was more surprised by the team taking a 2nd and 5th (likely to be a 4th, I'd guess) with both picks likely to be in the 20's at best in those rounds for Yan.
But they figured get something now rather than do the tag dance again next year.
The Yan move was known about and while they would have liked a first it's obvious they weren't getting that. So then they ran the risk of Yan sitting and going through the distraction again next year. Or possibly getting nothing in return from him if he played this year and then walked anyway.
The fact that some fans and media types are losing their minds over the release of LF is funny to me. But the LF release is a move made because he isn't a WC scheme back. He wasn't an elite RB talent. And he did very little to be a "Team first" guy. The team is shaping the roster as it needs to be for the future.
The same fans and media that knew, with or without Yan and/or LF, that this wasn't going to be a great season in terms of wins and losses are now up in arms about the team sucking. And in the same thought, these are the same fans that want to tank for Trevor.
Hell... it even made Ryan Day come out of his basement to post 3 different ranting articles on BCC.
