Short dual threat vs. tall pocket passer

#1

Johnny Manziel might be at a slight disadvantage without the "phantom inch" on TAMU's roster, but he certainly has a good point about Russell Wilson.

For anyone too lazy to read the whole article, this is why he thinks being very mobile and six feet even will not be a problem for him:

Quote:"You're seeing more guys being successful avoiding that first wave of pressure -- get out and do things outside the pocket."

Manziel identified speedy Jadeveon Clowney, who will enter the league as the draft's most highly-regarded defensive prospect, as the type of player who will, in time, require NFL offenses to be more mobile at the quarterback position.

"Wilson does some things he's not asked to do, when things don't go exactly as scripted. He's able to extend the play," Manziel said.

His critics might talk all the time about his size and playing style being a bad combination for medical reasons but what I see here is a guy saying he is more likely to get a first down than a pocket passer like Teddy Bridgewater because of his ability to extend the play. The part about Clowney gave me another idea: Mobility can help players stay healthy sometimes because it means taking fewer sacks and knockdowns. But is he helping himself by saying he is only one inch taller than 5-11 Wilson?
