Was about time and due. We can always argue about the coaching staff and all that like we do every week on here (rightly so) but the main issue Dave failed to solve is problem number 1 in football: Caldwell didn't get us a franchise QB, for years we've pretty much always faced other teams with a better QB than ours.

Even with a roster as young and as dismantled and incomplete as ours we have been competitive in more games than not and with a franchise QB results would have been much different (or are you telling me that flipping Luton with Watson we aren't winning that game? just to give an exemple).

There is room for discussion on the good and bad things we did (and the Coughlin years are another huge different story) but his first round failures and not having selected "the guy" at QB made the firing a logical choice.
