I never thought that Dave, Doug and the rest of the coaching staff was trying to tank. They were already on thin ice and may have gotten fired last year, had the Jags not won a few games at the end of the year. They knew their jobs were on the line, and I never thought they would intentionally lose. They didn't have the type of job security to do that, like say a first year GM and HC for the team might have. 

I do think that the team being very young and having growing pains, along with bad coaching are big reasons why the team is the situation it is now. I think that is a bigger problem than QB play, which a lot of Jags fan seems to want to blame it on. Gardner played well earlier on this season, but the defense was bad, and Mike was decent today, but the team still lost. It's not mainly QB or QB play that is the problem, though really good QB play could possibly help elevate things.

They should have been let go before Dave was IMHO. I do wonder how things may play out now that Dave has been fired. I did see that Shad promised them their jobs are "safe" for the rest of the season. I am interested in seeing how this impacts decisions they make going forward including who they start for QB the rest of the way. It seems like Shad is finally tired of losing. If the goal is to win as much as they can in whatever games they have left (and show more of the team's potential, then that should impact who they start at QB. 

I never bought into the tanking theory and I don't think that Doug wants to lose out going forward, especially with his job on the line. It might be different if he hadn't been with the Jags that long and knew he might get another year or two. But that's not the case and if they lose out or only win one game, he's probably out. (He might be out regardless).

Maybe one reason that Shad decided to retain Doug and the staff at least through the end of the season is because the team has been playing more competitively these past few weeks. They've been competitive since the Chargers game and have played competitive games with all three QB's. Maybe Shad thinks they can wrestle up some wins in the last few games and would rather see that, than see them have a completely dismal season. Granted if he ended up ultimately hiring a new staff and they turned things around starting next year, he would definitely be happy with that. But I don't think he likes to see the Jags lose as much as they have been and would probably like to see some winning before the season is over with.
