Lions fire HC and GM

There's no question on this end that Jaguars are better positioned to have success than the Lions in the seasons to come.  Here are my reasons:

1. The Jaguars have a good chance of getting a top 2 pick in the 2021 Draft, in a draft that there likely will be a franchise QB prospect to choose from in the top 2.

2. The Jaguars have a much more overall favorable draft pick situation.

3. The Jaguars have a much better 2021 salary cap situation.

The Lions have a realistic path to free up $ 30 million in additional salary cap space for 2021, not even factoring in the contract of Matthew Stafford. Yet,  unless the next GM has a strong off-season,  it's easy to envision 2021 being a rebuilding season in which the Lions are 4-12 or worse.

Objective fans are the best.

Agree completely, Stafford affords the incoming GM time to find a successor without the pressure of immediate need. They've got blocks to build on. I remember when Caldwell was first hired, his initial statements was that his work would not be a rebuild, because there was not even a foundation to build upon.

I think one of the other plusses for the Detroit job is that in a few years, that division is going to be wide open. The Burrs are a mess, and appear to be flailing at the most important position on the field; Minny just doesn't seem suited to consistent, deep runs in the playoff, whether than be the fault of Cousins or Zimmer. Cook is saving them from embarrassment now, but no telling how soon the wheels fall off; Unless you think Love is the answer, the Pack are going to be in trouble once Rodgers stops taking snaps. For a new GM, that's a distinct opportunity - not like you're starting off in the AFCW or NFCW, where there's already a solid favorite or two cemented in place.
