The tax rates in London would cut disposable income for those players. The top rate of federal income tax is 35% in the USA, and they only start to pay that if they earn more than $398,100 in a year – compared with 50% tax in the UK if you earn more than £150,000. To this add Agreed. If any team moved to London, it would be very difficult to lure free agents who are willing to move out of the USA. Not to mention the constant traveling back and forth for games. Talk about jet lag! It's one thing to play a game or two where you might have to travel from the east to the west coast, but to travel internationally for 8 out of 16 weeks? That is definitely something I wouldn't wanna do. Trades would be tricky as well. Undoubtedly, you'd see times where players traded to London would refuse to go, based on the logistics of what I just said. You're right. The taxes would be a nightmare as well. I just don't see how this would work. If something happens where the team is moved, I could only see them moving to another city within the U.S. There is just too many variables at play to move a team internationally. |
