Why the Jaguars have the most attractive GM opening in the NFL
|
I'm in the "Don't screw it up" school, so I am leaning towards a GM with experience. I think Rick Smith would be good. Jerry Reese would be fine. With TL coming on board, and a boatload of draft picks, and loads of cap space, we have one shot to get this right, and I don't want anyone who might screw it up, so I prefer the high-floor/low ceiling type of candidate instead of the "roll-the-dice-this-guy-might-be-great" candidate who has no GM experience.
But let's all keep in mind that we are not in the interview room when these guys come in a lay out a plan for the future of this team. Also, let's realize, intelligent people learn from their mistakes, and these are intelligent people who are applying for this job. One other thing- all GM jobs are different, and with an owner like Shad Khan who likes to turn things over to someone and walk away for a few years, as he is apparently prone to doing, the GM job in Jacksonville is a bigger job than in some other cities. We need someone who can handle a wide-ranging portfolio, way beyond just making the right draft picks. |
