"Those who think the Jets killed the future of their franchise by winning on Sunday and giving the Jaguars the lead in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes may want to look at how Super Bowl winners are built. It’s hardly ever by losing enough to earn the first overall pick, and using that pick on a franchise quarterback.

"In fact, of the NFL’s eight current division leaders, none drafted their quarterback first overall. None even drafted their quarterback in the Top 5."

Yes, I still want to draft Trevor Lawrence, and yes, he will help us immensely.  But I think we should also entertain the thought that an even better way to become a great team is to get a great General Manager.  And that makes the choice of GM obviously the most important thing for this franchise to do this offseason.  By far.

No, That's not how this works.

What the article should have pointed out is that of the 8 divisional champions, You have 6 Tried and True Franchise QB's, Ryan Tannehill who just threw for 3800 yards, 33 tds 7 picks and looks like someone taking the step to becoming a Franchise Guy and Alex Smith a quality qb (who oddly enough was drafted #1 overall).

The fact most of them weren't drafted #1 overall speaks to the eccentricities of the QB position and the difficulty evaluating it, not the lack of its importance.  GM's come and go, Coaches Come and go.  You have to have THE GUY!  IF Lawrence is THE GUY then he trumps everything.

It's even simpler than that.

It's mathematical inevitability.

Every draft has roughly 256 draft picks every year.

Every draft has exactly ONE #1 overall pick.

Not every playoff team is going to have the #1 overall pick.

Now of the teams in the playoffs, many of them made QB their first pick in a given draft.

Chiefs picked Mahomes.

Bills picked Allen.

Browns picked Baker Mayfield (#1 overall, in fact).

Packers made Aaron Rodgers their first pick in a draft.

Not only that, that article blatantly ignores history.  There have been numerous great QBs taken first overall.

Terry Bradshaw, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning have won 13 Super Bowls between them.

Bradshaw, Elway and Aikman are already in the hall of fame.  At least one of the Mannings' are a HOF shoe in.

If he has known Urban for years, why is this decision taking so long?

What does Urban have to figure out?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
