I can't imagine not having my dogs. I think I've had at least one dog, my entire life.

My daughter's boyfriend has a pit bull. I don't like pit bulls because they can be vicious and untrustworthy, in my opinion. The amount of muscle and strength this dog has is scary. However, she's a real sweetheart. She's gentle, calm (except when she first comes into my house, then she goes crazy with excitement) and very well-natured. Other dogs, cats, kids, nothing bothers her. You be her friend, she'll be yours. She climbs all 65 pounds up into my lap and lays there to doze. My daughter claims to have seen her upset only once and treats her almost like her kid. I pity the person that ever poses the slightest threat to my daughter. It would be real ugly.

With that being said, I've refused the favor to watch her for a day or two while they go out of town. I don't want to clean up dog piles out of the yard and worry about her peeing in the house, which she does at home on occasion. Plus I don't want to leave her in the house alone if we step out. Raising a bunch of kids was enough. I'm retired from the caretaking business forever. Dog and kid visits are fine, as long as they leave.

Now get off my lawn.
