One of the things that aggravated me about previous regimes was that they would cut a player without having a replacement.   They would be assuming, or hoping, to get a better player, either in the draft or in free agency, and a lot of the time, they would fail to get that done.  And we'd wind up with someone even worse.   I don't recall specific instances off the top of my head, but I do remember getting very aggravated after a while that they would keep doing this.  

At least this time we haven't created a hole where we are forced to find someone to fill that hole.  If we get someone better, then great.  But I'm glad that in this instance, given the importance of the position, we've not created a hole in our roster and assumed we were going to get someone better.

And who knows?  This story has not played out all the way yet.  It's entirely possible that we will get someone better and trade Cam to some other team.  It just seems like it would be stupid to let the guy walk away and get nothing in return.
