Caldwell sealed his fate when he decided after the 2017 season that Bortles was the guy. At that point, they could've upgraded the position by drafting Lamar Jackson. But Caldwell didn't want to do that, because it might have required shaking up the offense a little, and the Jags were a bad call away from going to the Super Bowl. He didn't want to rock the boat. To be honest, I felt the same way. I was too blind to carefully review the year and realize that Bortles was actually a liability. That Charger game comes to mind. Bortles tried his hardest to throw that game away, but fortunately, Myles Jack saved it for us.
