Baalke & Urban Press Conference

Urban hopes to get instant impact from higher picks, especially first 4 picks that Mia mentioned.

Urban leans toward need but is learning the value of drafting for value, not need, from Baalke.  This acquisition mindset is different than he is used to.  When mentioned trades, it was interesting that Baalke did liven up a little and stated they view the situation at the time of the picks (saying for instance may move back 2-3 spots at pick 25 if the players available warrant it).  They did indicate that they received a couple calls about the 1st pick but didn't seem to give it much thought, and indicating the owner will be involved with the 1st pick (although not mentioned in this all...a side note is Khan loves a franchise QB and TL).

In having a good team, Urban's priority is building an elite DL (with top 8 defensive goal this year).  They added DL in free agency, and are hoping for some on roster to mature, but they are not done yet.  Draft is deeper at DL edge positions, but DL interior does have some quality.

In having a good team, OL is next.  Thus far, they are going with the starting 5, with 2 young OTs and the vets on the interior.  He mentioned again that Warhop likes them.  He mentioned Shatley specifically for depth, but did not mention others (ie. Bartch, Richardson...).  He said they do plan to bring in some competition from draft.

Urban mentioned that they added speed in free agency, specifically mentioning Dorsett, Jones, and Agnew.  However, he also stated that they are always looking to add speed and big-play ability, as it was missing from this team.

I am sure there were some other nuggets.  These were the ones I recall.

Taken together, I would say there would be an emphasis on DL and speed earlier, with OL picks in the mid rounds if things go according to this.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
