Exactly, if we were a contender and a player or 2 away I could see the argument for needs drafting.  We are a 1 win team where almost every player can be upgraded, we have no All Pros.  Let's go get some perinial Pro Bowlers or All Pros regardless of position

It would still be a wrong argument, but I understand the desire to take the shortcut.

Remember the Jaguars in 2008? Even if you think you're one player away, you can't just create the player you need like it's Madden. You can only pick from the players available, and if the one at the position of need isn't good enough to be the best available what makes anyone think they'll be good enough to be that player that completes the puzzle?
