One of the local journalists in Jacksonville is saying that they heard that the Jags violated the No contact rules in OTA's. It sounds like that might be one of the violations that happened. I did think it was bit odd how the media wasn't allowed to like at least half of the OTA's/practices. Things did seem a bit hush hush with the Jags. It felt like other teams were being covered and featured more.

John Reid on Twitter: "Source confirms Jaguars will be fined for violating non contact rule during OTAs" / Twitter

John Reid on Twitter: "Statement from Jaguars: ''We've been informed of the fines issued by the league and will accept the NFL discipline as it pertains to a contact violation during practice on June 1.''" / Twitter

The news about the fines/punishment is not something I like to see especially before training camp. I don't like that the Jags will lose OTA's days next year. They are a young team and need all of the practice they can get IMO.

About losing the OTA days, what is it really going to hurt honestly? A day or two of not stretching and slapping pads? They're trying to play/practice for a collision sport and get punished for a little contact? How counter-intuitive is that... You can't practice tackling somebody unless you actually tackle somebody. Can't practice blocking somebody unless you block somebody etc etc. There has to be contact in this game. Tackling a stationary pad onto another pad over and over is only going to do so much.

I get that their reasoning (which lets be real, they really don't care) for all the cut backs on contact/pads in practice is due to "player safety", but they aren't playing golf, or even a contact sport like basketball. Football is a collision sport. I highly doubt they were out there in full pads crushing each other on non media days during an OTA practice. Something would have leaked and gotten out if that was the case. It's nothing more than a stupid "rule" that the league put in to use for their player safety spiel.

Good, I want my DBs/WRs to be aggressive and not afraid to crack somebody. You play how you practice.
