The best reforms will certainly not come from China.  End of paragraph.

I think perhaps Europe will overcome its socialist tendencies and continue to be the leader in establishing rules for all free persons to follow in the harvesting of data.

You know your boy DeSantis invests major Floridian taxpayer money into Amazon, Google, Twitter and Facebook, right?

It's not a left vs right thing.

It is just a money thing across the board.
Despite the ridiculous topic/premise of this thread, data-harvesting and the influence of big tech on voters is a major issue for all of us regardless of affiliation and philosophy.

I suppose the implication of my post is "and the Republicans will not get anything done, either." But I do believe the tribal, divided nature of our times means that voters on the Left will not get outraged, or motivated, as they might normally tend to do. Our brains are now filtering through a tribal, partisan lens -- if Google and Amazon signal they are on the right side, even individuals will not get outraged at them. And so we can hardly expect politicians to get fired up and protect us when we, the citizens, are comfortably tyrannized.

I have heard people that I have known for many years to be free speech advocates, or generally on the Left, etc. talk about Big Tech, and they say "Well, they are private corporations, they can do whatever they want." It's chilling to hear them throw out all thought and principle -- just because the virtue "teams" are currently aligned a certain way. More than ever before, I now understand how the tyrannical governments of the past (Venezuela, Cambodia, etc) got into power -- it was with half the population cheering it on. It's like Pogo said -- we have seen the enemy and it is us.
