I think we could.   I think Henne is a good enough caretaker QB.   I'll be specific.   Here are how I think we could reach 7-9 with Henne.  

 

Premium free agent center. 

Second tier free agent WR.   Starting quality. 

 

Trade with Atlanta and get their 2nd round pick (and their # 6 overall pick, of course)

 

6th pick in the draft, Khalil Mack

Atlanta's 2nd round pick- WR

Our 2nd round pick- OG

3rd round pick- RB. 

 

Do what you want with rest of our picks.  Take the best players available.   But basically, what I'm saying is if we fill our needs at Center, OG, WR, LB, and RB, with at least two of those being premium players and none of the rest of them being busts, I think we can reach 7-9 with Henne.   The whole idea is that we give him better protection and more weapons.  

 

I think I have more respect for Henne than a lot of people on this message board.  I think he's a below average QB, but with a team around him, he could get us to respectability.
