We had a top notch coach, what we haven't had is a top notch GM.

 

He along with Michael Huyghue (who no one ever wants to give his proper share of blame) were both responsible for the cap hell. 

 

At least Coughlin was usually pretty good with the first rounders. He rarely missed, and when he did hit, it was usually a pro bowl level player at best, solid starter at worst; Boselli, Hardy, Wynn, Taylor, Darius, Bryant, Pothead (only 1st round bust) , Stroud, Henderson.

 

He also drafted Rob Johnson in the 4th round that parlayed into Fred Taylor & Tavian Banks. But I guess he gets no credit as a GM for all of that. Just overblame him for the cap problems.
