Every decision last year was made around putting the Jaguars in a better position to take a big step forward in 2021. We traded veterans for draft picks. We cut high priced players to give us excellent salary cap room. We had salary cap space and didn't use it in order to roll it over into 2021. We had 16 rookies on our opening day roster last year. We could have brought back the exact same roster and I would have expected for us to win a couple more games this year just by those players now having experience. This was a team primed for improvement in 2021. We had a ridiculous amount of money under the salary cap to spend on free agents. We had a generational prospect at quarterback available to us in the draft. We had a bunch of extra draft picks including extra picks in the first and second round. Meyer/Baalke failed to capitalize. The NFL stands for "not for long". Teams can make a quick rebuild if they make the right moves. Meyer didn't. Meyer/Baalke have been disappointing at every step. They did a poor job in free agency. With the exception of Lawrence who was a no-brainer, Meyer/Baalke did a poor job in the draft. Although less important, they made other mistakes including bad trades, questionable roster decisions, and not fully capitalizing on having first option on every waiver wire player. You then have Meyer with poor coaching. We open the season up in an illegal formation and follow it up with two more in the first quarter. We have 12 men in the huddle. We have poor play calling. We have a healthy James Robinson and only using him 6 times in a game? We have poor clock management. We have coaches who seem completely unable to make mid-game adjustments. I'm usually big on players, not coaches, but it's hard not to feel like the Jaguars have been outcoached in every game this year. No, I didn't expect playoffs, but we had every reason to expect major progress and be competitive week in and week out. Unfortunately, the reality is that this team is 0-4 with three of those losses being by double digits and that's during one of the easiest stretches of our schedule. The Las Vegas odds currently don't think this team will even win 4 games this year. That's completely unacceptable. Yes, there are lots of reasons to be disappointed in Meyer. |
