It explains his presence in the bar. He didn’t stay in Ohio to go bar hopping, he was at a business he owns. He drinks in a bar he owns, others drink in sanctimonious armchairs.

To paraphrase:
Me: "why is that guy hiding off at a bar instead of at the hospital with his wife? Shouldn't he be doing his best to support her and help her through this rough time?"

You: "he owns the bar"

Me: "what does that have to do with anything? This is about his lack of dedication to her, why would it matter whether he owns the bar or not?"

You: "so now having a drink is a lack of dedication?"

It's not about what he did, it's about what he didn't and doesn't do. He goes to a bar instead of focusing on success as an NFL head coach. It doesn't matter if he owns the bar, and it isn't that having a drink at a bar means anything in particular itself. Focusing on what he was doing in the specific is how you show you don't understand what anyone is talking about. It's not about what he specifically did (for me, anyway), it's about what he doesn't do, which would be flying home with the team and getting back to work on being successful.
