When you have to play a safety 30 yards off the ball so that he doesn't get beat deep, he's a [BLEEP] liability. 

Don't kid yourself.

Compound that with him not having enough speed to get to where he needs to be because of how far back he's playing and he's not making plays for you - unless the ball is wildly overthrown like it was in the Cards game.

This defense needs playmakers but you won't be creating any turnovers if you have a safety playing like a hovering parent at an elementary school fieldtrip.
