The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I haven't done this in a while since the Jaguars' play has been "The Bad, The Bad and The Ugly" for a long time.  Anyways, here we go:

The Good
  • The Jaguars finally win and break a 20 game losing streak!
  • Trevor Lawrence had 319 passing yards for 1 TD with 0 interceptions.  He’s definitely showing improvement with some nice throws and cutting down on mistakes.  After having 7 interceptions in his first 3 games, he’s only had 1 in the last 3 games and even the 1 was in garbage time.  (To be fair, on the bad side, Lawrence did have a fumble today.)
  • James Robinson for having 73 rushing yards and 1 TD on only 17 carries.  He also had 28 receiving yards.  Even this understates his performance.  He also had a 27 yard run called back on Farrell’s face mask penalty.
  • Marvin Jones had 7 receptions for 100 yards and 1 TD.  He made some really tough, contested receptions today.
  • Most considered Agnew a return specialist when he signed with us, but he had 78 receiving yards today.  For comparison sake, he only had 89 yards all of last season.
  • The play call with 5 seconds left in the game.  It was a risk, but it was out of field goal range and a hail Mary would have been riskier.  It worked.  I've been critical of the OC all year, but he gets credit when credit is deserved.
  • The defense actually got a turnover.  That’s been rare this year for the Jaguars.  Thank you Nevin Lawson for the interception.
  • Last, but certainly not least, Wright for being perfect on 3 field goals and 2 extra points.  This included 2 field goals of over 50 yards.

 The Bad
  • The Jaguars struggled for most of today against a team that had lost 4 straight games and had the worst score differential in the NFL.
  • The defense had zero sacks today.  Other than occasionally Allen who couldn’t get home, there was virtually no pass rush.
  • The Jaguars were only 3 for 12 on third down conversions.
  • Not enough separation by wide receivers.  They made it tough on Lawrence.
  • Too many drops by receivers.  Arnold had a crucial one that would have given us first and goal and instead having to settle for a field goal.  Shenault also had a couple of notable drops.
  • Plenty of penalties in key situations.  A face mask penalty wiped out a 27 yard run.
  • They passed up the opportunity for a field goal and take a TD lead in the 4th Quarter by going for it on fourth down and getting stopped.  That mistake almost came back to bite us.  We’re lucky it didn’t.
  • Lack of contributions from draft picks not named “Trevor Lawrence”.  To be fair, two were injured, but still, our other draft picks combined for 1 reception and that player even had the penalty that wiped out the 27 yard run.  From what I can see, no one else made the stat sheet.  No tackles, sacks, interceptions, fumbles, rushes, receptions, etc. Many of them are either inactive, not playing or playing minimally.  That’s not the way to rebuild a team.
The Ugly

  • The Dolphins wide receivers were constantly wide open.  The Jaguars often didn’t even have a player within 10 yards of them.  It’s unbelievable how easy we make it on the opposing quarterback.
