The Jaguars can be terrible with Gabbert under center, no reason to pay a guy like Henne anything more than Veterans minimum to be terrible.

 

 

If Henne has the belief he can go out and get paid significantly more than vet min on the open market then Caldwell needs to let him go get it. This isn't a team that needs to waste extra money on guys that don't contribute to winning just to fill out roster slots.

 

I'd rather pay Henne $3 million than Gabbert at this point. 

 

I don't think the team is going to low ball Henne and offer him the league minimum as the OP implied.  There's value in having a veteran QB who knows the system and the personnel, especially when there's no guarantee we're going to land a QB in the draft who will be ready to step in as the starter any time soon. 

 

People like you act like this is your money they're spending.  The team has to spend their cap money.  We can't bargain basement every player and hit the minimum spending requirements. If you're stroking the check for Henne, then you can complain about how overpriced he is.  In this market, he's as close to a bargain as we are gonna get.
