He was a top 10 pick.  That's plenty of reason for criticism I think.  While he can't control where he was picked, that he was picked in the Top 10 has earned him more criticism than if he were picked in the 2nd round.  Of course we didn't have a 2nd rounder that year because Gene Smith thought it'd be a good idea to trade up in the 3rd round the year before!

 

Alualu isn't terrible.  But he's not good either.  Even in the 2nd, he'd be a disappointment. 

 

People who say Alualu doesn't deserve to be criticized as a player would be slamming him if he were a texan, colt, or titan.

 

One only needs to do the mental exercise enough to think about Terrance Knighton to understand just how bad of a pick Alualu was.

 

Terrence was a better player, he was drafted two rounds later, and he still wasn't good enough for this team's new management to consider him a priority in free agency.

 

Alualu is just a guy. If he had been picked in the middle or late rounds we'd like him for trying hard and he'd probably have been cut by now.

 

Since he was picked early he's a bust and completely worthy of the disdain fans feel for the decision to take him in the top 10.
