My grandson (12 years old) got a .22 rifle for Christmas last year, however it is locked up in my gun safe and he only gets to use it when he is under supervision. He has also been through a hunter's safety class and knows how to responsibly handle firearms.

All true, but when the parents are irresponsible, who then has to take responsibility to prevent these needless deaths in the future?
