If he is on the roster, his cap hit is 4.16 million. If he is released, he counts as 3.08 million against the cap. The savings is just over 1 million. For 1 million, I don't think he is released.

With the amount of cap space the Jaguars have right now I doubt dead money even factors into it. The circa 5mil that the team would save on his last two seasons by cutting him is real money, as in real money that is yet to be paid and which could be paid to someone worthwhile in free agency.

The dead money only matters when the cap is a concern, and currently in this off season it's just not a concern for the Jaguars.
