People misunderstand the point of the rule. The reason is to get more minority assistant coaches/candidates more interview experience. It was found that there’s a link between first time interviewers and their hire rate. Their inexperience put them at a severe disadvantage; if the odds increased being hired the 2nd interview cycle through, the idea is that doing this even though we know Adrian Wilson is guaranteed the position is to get another minority candidate the experience of talking to ownership and laying out their vision so they can get good feedback and make the most of their next interview opportunity and the result being more minority coaches being hired for top roles. I think the idea has merit.
