We needed to replace 60% of the line already, and the team simply opened the door to make that 80%.  Such is the world when rebuilding an NFL roster that's as bad as this one has become.

 

Monroe represented one of the ONLY players on the roster the team was willing to part ways with who had any trade value.  As more news trickles out about this deal, the value of this deal seems to be diminishing somewhat.  Considering how difficult it is to find a quality LT in the league, we're really going out on a limb putting our trust in a rookie.  Maybe he comes in and plays lights out like Boselli did, or maybe he winds up being another Mike Pearson Or K-Whiff Barnes.  We shall see. 

 

It's a bold move, and a significant gamble by the new GM.  Either he's the smartest guy in the room, and this works out extremely well for the team, or we're going to be treated to more of the same garbage we've been forced to endure for several  years now.  Time will tell. 

 

As far as protecting the rookie QB, that's a legitimate question that has plagued this franchise through multiple QBs.  If Joeckel pans out, I guess we can ask the rookie QB to just hide behind him until we develop a complete line?

 

I'm betting we'll have a pretty active time in free agency going after guards and tackles when we have the opportunity.
