He isn't alone in thinking this . . . several of the guys on 1010xl were saying the same thing, that they believed a good amount of Leftwich's following for the HC position came from him playing here.

It probably didn't hurt that he played for the Jags, but it's not like Byron was all that well liked as a player.  If we hadn't drafted Leftwich, the rumor was that Del Rio wanted Suggs.  And if we had drafted Suggs that year, we could have had Big Ben the following year instead of Shack reaching for receivers that weren't any good.
Who wouldn't have preferred Suggs and Big Ben over Leftwich and Reggie Williams and to top that off, Matt freaking Jones?  Drafting Leftwich set us back years, so if anything, his time here as a player should be detrimental.
