Money talks. Also, nonwhite voters are not as intense when it comes to…almost every issue. On racial resentment issues especially, nonwhite voters are very different from their white progressive allies in the sense that they know and acknowledge progress. Sure, more work needs to be done, but white ‘woke’ liberals only see Apartheid South Africa in everything. Disagreement is not accepted. It’s considered enabling evil. How do you craft a successful messaging with that mindset? You can’t. My FIL and MIL are in their 70s and live in small town NC. They don't even understand what "woke" means. Their worldview is extremely small. It's truly astounding. They really don't seem to get what's going wrong. My husband's aunt (MILs sister) is not quite as sheltered but she's not ever willing to see the truth of pretty much anything that is upsetting. My sister-in-law is 45 years old and knows better but again, she doesn't really want to get too realistic. Somehow my husband and my SILs daughter both came out of that family as conservatives. Not sure how but they did. I am the wild card. I've lived and traveled all over the US and lived in a foreign country and experienced a great many things they never did and never will. The ten years I've been married and lived in this house is the most stability I've ever had. My political views reflect a mix of what I've experienced and what I believe in and I'm willing to discuss another POV that isn't total madness. My in-laws are firmly dug in and won't see what's happening right in front of them. |
