Money talks. Also, nonwhite voters are not as intense when it comes to…almost every issue. On racial resentment issues especially, nonwhite voters are very different from their white progressive allies in the sense that they know and acknowledge progress. Sure, more work needs to be done, but white ‘woke’ liberals only see Apartheid South Africa in everything. Disagreement is not accepted. It’s considered enabling evil. How do you craft a successful messaging with that mindset? You can’t.

That alone describes why the traditional democrats are losing ground. The progressives hijacked the democrat party because they knew their far left ideas wouldn't support a standalone party. Now traditional democrats are paying the price by being "guilty by association" in sharing the party and are the target for hate and discontent that is fully aimed at the progressives.

My in-laws are all traditional democrats and they cannot/will not see what the progressives are doing to their party, or to the country, because the media does their job well and doesn't make what the leftists are doing sound as bad as it is. Not in NC anyway. I don't hate my in-laws for being democrats but I do get frustrated that they refuse to see what is actually happening and any discussion to show them otherwise is shut down. They are willfully ignorant and that mindset grinds my gears on any day, on any subject and from anyone.

If traditional democrats don't push out the leftists and take their party back things will only get worse for them.

I would bet your in-laws aren't being willfully ignorant, they know exactly what's going on. The problem is dems will not question their own party - that has always been their hallmark. To express doubt or disagreement is considered traitorous and is grounds for outing or accusations of sleeping with the enemy. They would rather tolerate wokeness run destructively rampant than urge moderation which could be interpreted as giving ground to the other side.

My FIL and MIL are in their 70s and live in small town NC. They don't even understand what "woke" means. Their worldview is extremely small. It's truly astounding. They really don't seem to get what's going wrong. My husband's aunt (MILs sister) is not quite as sheltered but she's not ever willing to see the truth of pretty much anything that is upsetting. My sister-in-law is 45 years old and knows better but again, she doesn't really want to get too realistic.

Somehow my husband and my SILs daughter both came out of that family as conservatives. Not sure how but they did. I am the wild card. I've lived and traveled all over the US and lived in a foreign country and experienced a great many things they never did and never will. The ten years I've been married and lived in this house is the most stability I've ever had. My political views reflect a mix of what I've experienced and what I believe in and I'm willing to discuss another POV that isn't total madness.

My in-laws are firmly dug in and won't see what's happening right in front of them.
