Talking football seems like a futile fight.  Where are the mods to take out the trash?  Oh yea, some of the mods are trolls too.

thank you for your contribution to the topic at hand. Feel better?

Made the argument that he was the key to keeping it altogether in Houston, and not even barely a year after he had to step away and step down to take care of his dying wife, O'Brien took full control of the roster and the team completely imploded from there. Much like Rick Spielman, he's showcased over the years that he's capable of finding quality players in rounds where it's rare to find said quality.

Not only does he find quality players but he also has a knack for finding a healthy balance of players on offense and defense. I really don't think this team could go wrong either way at this point. Rick Smith should have been interviewed months ago though for the position. I would have interviewed him to take over Baalke regardless with the intent of expanding his role even further at an executive level.

I'm all for filling the room with as much talent as we can muster, Smith would be a good get.
Agreed completely.

As cringe worthy as Khan's coaching search was, it turned out quite beneficial to us in two respects:

1.  It resulted in the Jaguars hiring Doug Pederson.  Granted with all of the delays, we needlessly risked losing him, but we didn't.

2.  Khan said he learned from the coaching search that he needed to put more resources into scouting/football operations than he had before.  For years, the Bengals were a horrible team because they ran a bare bones scouting staff and front office.  I wonder if Khan (abd oerhaps Weaver) was making the same mistake here.  If Khan puts more resources into the front office/football operations/scouting, and that nets ups more quality people like Spielman and Smith, t would only benefit us in the longer term.  Adding guys like that who have good eyes for talent should lead to better drafting, better free agency expenditures, better handling of waiver wire claims and better final roster decisions than we've been getting before.

I'd welcome either or both of Rick Smith and Rick Spielman to the Jaguars.  Bith have oroven able to assemble talented rosters in the trenches and at the skill positions, on both sides of the ball.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
