And having Diggs doesn’t help Allen? Or Keenan Allen and Mike Williams help Herbert?

Exactly.

One of the reasons Daboll was on my radar in the first place is he was present when the Bills built around Allen. He was there when they built the O-Line. he was their when they added Diggs, Thomas, Knox, Sanders, Beasley. I wanted that knowledge here in Jacksonville when it came to building around TL.

To be clear, I do not assert that Mahomes does not benefit from having talent around him.

But, in the case of my buddy, if you go around all year saying the Bills are the best and that the Bills are going to the Super Bowl, then you go around talking about how Allen is the best QB in the AFC, only to find out under closer scrutiny he suffers mightily by comparison, don't then don't whine about any sort of talent disparity.

I got worked up over this because I just debated my obnoxious Bills fan buddy in this very topic last night.

Like Acho, he asserted Josh Allen is the best QB in the AFC.


My contention is that Allen is, at best, the 3rd best QB in the AFC behind Mahomes and Burrow.



There is ZERO objective justification for Allen being better than Mahomes.



Statistically, Mahomes is vastly superior to Allen.  Here is a head to head comparison

As you can see, Mahomes has only played in 2 more games than Allen.  Yet he has He;s thrown for a higher completion rate, more yards, FORTY EIGHT (48) more TDs and NINE (9) FEWER INTs.  Even if you factor in the rushing totals (which favor Allen), Mahomes still accounts for 33 more total TDs than Allen.



From a won-loss perspective, the edge remains with Mahomes who has ELEVEN (11) more wins and EIGHT (8) FEWER losses than Allen.  He's won more than twice the playoff games (8-3) than Allen.  He's won the head to head matchups (3-1 counting the playoffs),  Mahomes has been to two Super Bowls, winning one.  Allen has yet to reach a Super Bowl, much less win one.



Mahomes has won more individual accolades than Allen.  Mahomes has won NFL MVP, been voted All Pro, voted to four Pro bowls, Super Bowl MVP, 2018 AP Off POY.  Allen can only claim 1 Pro Bowl to his credit.



Simply put, there is no objective criteria you can use to say Allen is better than Mahomes.



I submit that Burrow is better than Allen for two reasons:



1,  Because despite having a career half as long as Allen's in terms of when they entered the league, and playing in less than half of the games actually played, Burrow already has a Super Bowl appearance to his credit and has won as many playoff games (3-3)



2.  He was able to elevate a lesser team to greater heights than Allen.  Nobody felt coming into the season that Cincinnati was a better team overall than Buffalo.  It's doubtful many people now feel like Cincinnati is better overall than Buffalo.  Yet he managed to elevate a less talented Bengals team than Allen did with the Bills (this was HIS criteria, BTW, using Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady to illustrate this point.



Oddly enough, dragging brady and Rodgers into the debate still doesn't help Allen in the analysis.  He loses out in every analysis to Aaron Rodgers in terms of Super bowls won, attended, individual accolades, head to head, overall WL record, to say nothing of GOAT Tom Brady.



Allen is an outstanding QB who has the possibility of winning a Super Bowl or two in his future (though I sure hope not).  That said, there i ZERO justification for ranking Allen as the best QB in football.

Local sports talk radio was discussing this yesterday. Personally, I just think Acho was doing something outlandish to get attention. His list didn't make any sense and I think he knew ranking it that way and discussing it on national television was gonna get him a lot of exposure. Either that or he really is crazy.

Or a hopeless Bills homer, like my buddy, which is fine by me. 

I've won a lot of steak dinners due to his lack of objectivity over the years.
