If you are trying to turn from the general truth of the bird-in-hand concept toward a specific real world application of it  - you should be turning toward the specifics of the Josh Allen scenario as he is the topic at hand. Not Ramsey. 

While Ramsey forced his way out, we are under no such pressure from Allen and trading him for picks would be foolish IMO.

Exactly.  It was a steal what we got for Ramsey we just had the wrong GM.  We don't need to trade Allen away

It wasn't a steal. It was market value. 

Having the front office squander the picks is exactly why it would have been smarter to keep the player. 

In Ramsey's case, keeping the player likely would have ultimately proven impossible.
