NCJag's original e-mail is a little misleading in almost all of that cap savings results from Linder.  Cutting Hyde would save us less than $2 million and that assumes we went with 52 players.  Even if you factor a rookie minimum salary as his replacement, the savings comes to about $1.3 million. The savings is even less if we replace him with a veteran.  The point is that there's no significant cap savings by cutting Hyde.  

As for Linder, I wouldn't go as far to call it "foolish", but I would keep him.  We already have a bunch of holes to fill on the team, let's not create more.  We don't know how the draft will fall and I don't like reaching for a need.  Rookies also sometimes take time to develop.  If there's good value at center in the draft in the mid or late rounds, we can still take him.  He can be a backup for a year and if he looks good, he can take over next year as our center for the future.

When he is on the field, Linder is a good player.  I do not hold his injuries against him.  AND, we just resigned his backup.  To my mind, we should not cut a good player to save on the cap or because we're salty that he has been often injured.  We don't need the cap space.  We need good players on the Oline to protect our franchise qb.  And this year IS a good year to draft a center (and guards).  We should definitely do that, too.

My point about cutting Hyde is not about cap savings. It's because he adds no value. He's a waste of roster spot. We can sign a rookie that will give us more production.
