So then if I understand you correctly:

1.  Teams, even those with three years worth of premium picks, should never trade any of them?

2.  Teams should never pay top dollar for a top player?

3.  Teams should never draft/acquire fast players?

No. You don’t understand me correctly.

A 2022 1st, 2nd, and 4th, plus a 2023 4th and 6th, plus $30m/year is too much for a WR no matter how good he is.

Teams should pay top dollar for certain players at certain times. There are times when 14.5% of your cap is worth an elite WR. I just think the Dolphins are foolish to do it at this time in their rebuild. No quarterback currently on their roster can take full advantage of Tyreek.

Nothing I said mitigates against drafting fast players. But if being fast is your main thing and you were in a position that one hit can take that main thing from you, I’m not giving you that kind of guaranteed money plus all of that draft capital to acquire you.

And the argument that you’ve got to do everything you can to compete in the arms race that is the AFC right now doesn’t hold water for me. The Dolphins are still the third best team in their division. They’re not going to make the playoffs probably. And if they do they still have to get through the teams from the AFC West and the AFC North. I think it’s unnecessarily wasting money. You just keep building a good roster and ride the storm out for two or three years and the landscape will change. Then you can attack your window after you have a better quarterback.
