He signed for one year at $10mil.  I read somewhere that we had offered him a 1-yr $7mil contract.  Speculation through the season was that he could be had for $12mil.  I figured he'd want more.

My point is that we low-balled him.  There's no way he turns down another $2mil from the Jags if it had been offered.  Seems much more like we didn't want him, and it makes me a bit sad.

I agree on the outside looking in we maybe low balled him. Realistically, I am thinking it was more of his agent working to get the player the most he could. What if the Jags waited a bit and seeing other teams below 7 million offered that to keep him. The other teams countered getting him to 10 million. When the bidding got to 10 million the Jags bowed out.  Actually that could very well be the case.
