The darft is quickly becoming like the SB to me - so much hype, coverage and debate before the event that by the time the game starts, I'm kinda oversaturated on it.

Much like the SB, we have a core group of friends that make an event out of at least rnd 1. We go to the local watering hole, enjoy some food, some tasty beverages, laugh at the boneheaded GMs trading away tons of picks for mediocre players, and not really basing any of the enjoyment of the evening on one pick. I should note that the watering hole closed down for the night around pick 24 last year, that's kinda important regarding my last statement.

I'm generally willing to benefit of the doubt most any pick we make - after all, GMs and their scouting teams should be doing a lot more research and prep that silly ol' me before one of the biggest days of their year, right?

I think if anything, having R1P1 kinda takes some of the excitement out of the event - last year we all knew or expected TLaw to be the pick, and there was no chance he wouldn't be available when our pick came up. Think back to a few years ago and the Gints take Daniel Jones, leaving Josh Allen on the table for us to snag - how excited were you to hear their pick? This year doesn't have the same wow factor, even if we do get the pick right, but not having that random number generator potentially screwing with who we expect to be available does take away some of the mystique for me.

That said, I look forward to the darft more for the fun I have with our friends than I do worrying about the one(s) that got away. We've made great picks, we've made bad picks, but in the end no matter how good or bad the pick may be, it's always better to share that moment with good friends. And beer, lots of beer.
