I think it's a good idea to go with the head coach's preference among fairly evenly rated players. That way it's easier to fire the head coach if things go south. He got who he wanted. But if Baalke picks Walker against' Pederson's wishes, Baalke is headed to Baalke island, which is easier for the owner to nuke.

This is a good point. I certainly hope that coach gets some input to the board to say who will or won't likely fit in our schemes, but at the same time I sure hope that "scheme fit" is not the only factor we rely on when making decisions at the top of a darft.

If Walker is as good as advertised, a coach should be able to find a place to make them work, or adjust their playbook to yield results. Same goes for any of the tackles, a DB, etc.
