Fournette wasn't explosive, which was part of what made taking him so dumb.

I believe Harris and Caldwell could evaluate talent decently, but constantly passed up talent early in drafts for filling roster holes, which is extremely stupid. I don't think Gene Smith could evaluate talent and didn't understand value, either. Baalke's record doesn't make me hopeful, but the team's owner either doesn't understand the importance of good talent evaluation, or just doesn't care.

It took the Saints some 21 years to make their first playoffs.

While it didn't take the Jaguars anywhere near that long to make its first playoffs, our draft history HAS led us to 1 playoff berth within the last 14 seasons.  If our poor drafting continues, we could share a comparable fate to the Saints.  SMH.

I agree, drafting has been the problem for decades. The good news is drafting the QB is the hardest part, now either Baalke has to show he can hit the layups, or Khan needs to replace him quick.

I think having a coach that can figure out how to make good use of talent helps a lot, too, so at least we have that

Dating back to 2000, we missed on Soward, R. Williams. Matt Jones, Justin Blackmon, amd Leonard Fournette.

Those first four receivers failed at least in part due to substance dependence issues.  Soward and Blackmon had the toold to be explosive as hell, but they couldn't stay sober enough to do anything.  Fournette had some explosiveness, but the team got rid of him because they saw him as a bit of a knucklehead.  Tamps, of course, snapped him up and made two straight playoffs, winning a Super Bowl.

When we actually come close to hitting on a player, we promptly let him go.

I'm getting the sense that Josh Allen will be the next productive player to go, having not met his potential here because they purged the defense of the help needed to enable him to thrive.

I can only hope Trevor Lawrence doesn't leave here screaming.

None of those guys had the kind of athletic attributes to justify their draft position except for maybe Matt Jones, which is a sad indictment.

However, I think the team will at least succeed at improving substantially because of Trevor and Pedersen, though without good drafting the team will only get so far.
